Shainoor Khoja is a social entrepreneur and founder and CEO of Better Business Enterprise (BBE), a consultancy working with businesses, development agencies, governments and social entrepreneurs. BBE identifies new opportunities in emerging markets and the developed world to address the needs of base-of-the-pyramid populations.
Shainoor’s work is global. She has worked in Afghanistan, East Africa, Kyrgyzstan, the Maldives, the Middle East, Syria, Tajikistan, United States and Zambia. She’s passionate about women and children, and youth and lower-income communities, and her work focuses on these groups through initiatives across health care, technology, corporate social responsibility, education, entrepreneurial development, and large-scale humanitarian response.
Shainoor previously was managing director, Roshan Community, at Afghanistan’s No. 1 mobile operator. She was integral to fundraising cycles that raised more than $180 million for the company.
She also created innovative strategies to drive strategic value, growth and development including incubating initiatives and evolving them into viable commercial products. Examples include Mobile Money for financial inclusion, E-Learning, Clean Energy for telecoms and health care, and design and implementation of the first Afghan Health and Disability Insurance Scheme.
Shainoor holds several board positions: Governor for International Development Research Center Canada (IDRC), Social Venture Network, Trustee for the Global Council for Compassion, and Social Innovator in Residence at Babson College.
