Ultrafiltration: Precision Filtration for High-Purity Water
Ultrafiltration (UF) is a membrane filtration method that operates under pressure, effectively separating particles based on size. With pore sizes ranging from 10 to 1,000 angstroms, UF removes suspended solids, turbidity, color pigments, bacteria, and viruses without altering water’s chemical structure. This process significantly improves water quality for applications requiring stringent filtration standards.
How Ultrafiltration Works
- Pre-Filtration: Water passes through a coarse filter to remove large particles and debris, preventing clogging and extending membrane life.
- Membrane Filtration: Pre-treated water is forced through semi-permeable ultrafiltration membranes under pressure. These membranes allow only water molecules to pass while retaining contaminants.
- Post-Treatment (Optional): Depending on specific water quality requirements, additional treatment processes, such as UV disinfection or chemical dosing, can be implemented. These measures further improve purification by neutralizing any remaining contaminants and enhancing overall water safety.

Applications

Sand and Activated Carbon Filters: Targeted Removal of Contaminants
Sand and activated carbon filters play a crucial role in water treatment, effectively removing contaminants to enhance water quality and meet regulatory standards. Sand filtration efficiently reduces suspended solids and turbidity, while activated carbon filtration targets organic compounds, chlorine, and unwanted odors. Depending on the application’s criteria, either or both filtration methods may be applicable to ensure optimal water treatment outcomes.
Sand Filtration: Effective Reduction of Suspended Solids
Sand filters effectively reduce turbidity, a crucial indicator of contamination, by removing suspended solids, organic matter, silica, and other residues. This process enhances clarity and supports compliance with water quality standards.
How Sand Filtration Works
- Layered Filtration Media: Water flows through multiple layers of fine sand, gravel, and glass. As it percolates, suspended particles are captured within the pores of the media bed.
- Turbidity Reduction: Removes sediments and impurities, resulting in clearer water suitable for industrial, municipal, and commercial applications.

Activated Carbon Filtration: Removing Chlorine & Organic Contaminants
Activated carbon filters are engineered to eliminate odors, tastes, color, organic compounds, and chlorine from water. The porous composition of activated carbon offers a substantial surface area for adsorption, effectively capturing dissolved contaminants.
How Activated Carbon Filtration Works
- Adsorption Process: Water passes through a bed of activated carbon granules. The porous nature of the carbon allows it to adsorb organic compounds, chlorine, and other impurities.
- Enhanced Water Treatment: This process improves water quality by eliminating unwanted substances, making it suitable for industrial, municipal, and commercial applications requiring high water purity.
